The Jaguar X Type is a compact executive car that has been produced since 2001 and is the smallest of the current Jaguar saloon cars.
The X Type has been designed as a direct competitor to the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and is to build on the success of the S Type, although it has inherited much of it's styling from the XJ series.
The X Type is equipped with either a diesel 2.0, 2.2 or petrol 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 engine. Some petrol models are equipped with the Jaguar "All Wheel Drive" (the patented Jaguar Traction 4 system) which is tuned to send 60% of engine power to the rear wheels and 40% to the front for a sportier feel.
The initial version of the X Type was a saloon. In early 2004, this was joined by an estate version, making it the second ever Jaguar estate car, in addition to being the first to use a diesel engine. The X Type estate version was launched to mixed reception but has proved to be a very popular Jaguar model. |
